Too many young people are not reaching their potential in science, driven in part by ongoing challenges in recruiting and retaining specialist teachers. By supporting students now, strengthening the role of parents and educators, and contributing to the wider conversation, we can help improve outcomes and opportunities for the next generation.

My Story
My experience of secondary schools
After thirteen years of teaching science in secondary schools, I’ve been fortunate to experience the full spectrum of education — from outstanding teaching and inspirational leadership to the challenges of inconsistent practice and limited support. Working with students from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with special educational needs, disadvantaged circumstances, and English as an additional language, has deepened my commitment to inclusion and opportunity for all.
A rising tide raises all ships
However, I’ve also seen how students who don’t fall within specific categories can sometimes be overlooked when it comes to enrichment and opportunity. While closing the attainment gap is essential, I believe a rising tide raises all ships. Every learner deserves to feel valued, challenged, and supported — and our future scientists must be equipped with the skills, confidence, and ambition to thrive in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
Determination
Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed how systemic pressures can drive talented teachers away from the profession. Too often, they leave not from lack of passion, but because they haven’t felt supported or able to flourish. This understanding drives my determination to improve teacher development, recruitment, and retention.
Credentials
My experiences in teaching, tutoring, leadership, recruitment, and governance — combined with a background in law and business — have given me a holistic view of education and the systems that shape it. I hold a 2:1 Honours Degree in Law with Business Administration, a PGCE in Science, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and the National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching (NPQLT).
